Giuricich
Coastal Projects (Pty) Ltd., was formed on 1st May 2004, as a
result of the coastal operation separating from its previous parent
company, and being taken over by the current management, which
had established and operated the business successfully since its
inception in 1982.
Robert
Giuricich (chairman) and Rodney van der Walt (managing director)
who each held 50% of the shareholding until the 30th September
2005, have now sold 28% of their shares to long-standing deserving
employees, namely Johan Klaasen, Vernon van Wyk, Raj Govender,
Ashook Sonbadhar, Raj Singh and Denis Robert.
The motivation
for this restructure was to provide for succession planning to
ensure continuity of the business into the future, recognize excellent
past service, foster even greater commitment to performance and
quality, as well as to achieve compliance with black economic
employee (BEE) requirements and the Construction Charter.
The company
is now 18.5% owned by previously disadvantaged individuals (PDI’s)
which in time, will increase further as shareholders emanating
from the current ranks will also be invited to buy in as stakeholders.
GCP have achieved level 3 contributer of BEE and 100% procurement recognition (see mission)
The vision
of both Robert and Rodney to ensure succession and new shareholders
from within the ranks has now been realized. The current team
has a vast track record and experience in all types of building
inclusive of property development, turnkey projects, civil contracting,
project management, as well as joint-venture contracting. A high
percentage of the order book is negotiated and the company enjoys
a significant volume of repeat and referral business from existing
clients.
Robert
was born into a family building concern and remembers his early
training from the age of 5 when his paternal grandfather, a skilled
boat builder, joiner and builder, taught him the use of basic
tools for joinery work. Practical on site training during school
holidays, a university degree in Quantity Surveying, and extensive
involvement in all aspects of the building process thereafter,
completed his education.
His involvement
with the family business, which he helped guide from a two-man
operation to one of the largest private construction companies
in South Africa, the establishment of the Natal Coastal operation,
which he and Rodney took over in 2004, and involvement on various
industry committees in the formal building industry, culminated
in his election as President of the Building Industries Federation
of South Africa (BIFSA) , now known as Master Builders of South
Africa (MBSA), for the 1992/93 term of office.
Similarly,
Rodney emanates from a building background; his father, a prominent
Professional Quantity Surveyor, played a large part in his early
training and influenced his positive work ethic. He obtained a
university degree in Building Science and, after having been employed
by Robert in 1976 as a Project Manager, he was transferred to
establish and run the coastal division in 1982 - today Giuricich
Coastal Projects (Pty) Ltd.
The company
operates throughout South Africa and adjoining territories.
Since 2004
because of its total independence, increased demand for construction,
and new opportunities, the company has expanded its capacity significantly,
moved to larger premises and are currently training and investing
in human resources, new plant and construction methodology in
order to continue to provide the very best possible service to
its clients in the future.
